You know what? Despite my obvious loathing for Starmer I actually believe him. Those who've come out in defence of Olly Robbins aren't disputing that Starmer (and the rest of his cabinet) weren't told, they're saying Robbins was following the correct legal procedure and has been thrown to the wolves.
However it was Starmer and his Blue Labour clique who wanted Mandelson in that job despite the near Everest sized mound of evidence demonstrating that he was a liability and a twat, so if the civil service bent over backwards to accommodate their wishes who's really to blame?

I've got broadband sorted for the new flat from Tuesday, so hope to be moved by Thursday and maybe I'll christen it with a QT review.
Here's the dole scrounger's guide to moving.
I got a deal from BT for broadband, £16 a month if you're in receipt of Universal Credit.
Applied for low income support from Yorkshire Water which will at least halve the bill (had to provide a UC statement).
Applied for Council Tax support which will result in a 75% reduction (had to provide a UC statement)*.
The only ones I can't seem to use my penurious state to nobble are the energy companies, but worry not, I'll keep looking for a way.
*Council tax support is weird. It depends on each individual council and what they regard to be income and capital. Some have 100% reductions for benefit claimants (75% in Leeds), others (almost exclusively Tory) count benefit payments as income so if you're poor there you're screwed.
I do wonder how many people on low incomes know about these options, for the Yorkshire Water one all you need is to be able to demonstrate that you earn less the 2K a month (and have less than 16K in capital), which I'm pretty sure applies to some friends of mine, none of whom are 'too proud to claim' or any of that shit, they just work in the arts so are not exactly sensible.
